Once a year the RTA closes Sheikh Zayed Road, the twelve-lane motorway that runs through the middle of Dubai, and for one morning you get to walk down it. That morning will be Dubai Run 2026, on Sunday 22 November 2026.
A part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge 2026, the run will have two distances options – 5km and 10km. You can pick one when you register.
The short answer
Dubai Run 2026 is a mass run along a closed motorway, and it is one of four flagship days inside Dubai Fitness Challenge. It will take place on Sunday 22 November 2026 and will start at 06:30. There will be two routes: a 5km through Downtown Dubai and a 10km on Sheikh Zayed Road. In 2025 entry was free, there was no timing chip, and you could walk the whole way. 307,000 people took part that year, a figure the Government of Dubai Media Office reported itself. Booking is not open, and as of 2 September 2026 neither Dubai Sports Council nor the Department of Economy and Tourism has announced an opening date.
Dubai Sports Council and the Department of Economy and Tourism have published three things for Dubai Run 2026: the date, the start time and one sentence about the routes. Everything else on this page is how it worked in 2025. We mark each one, and we’ll replace it as the 2026 details come out.
What this article covers
Dubai Run 2026
Dubai Run 2026 is a mass run along a closed motorway. Sheikh Zayed Road carries most of Dubai’s traffic for the other 364 days of the year, and on this one morning its twelve lanes will be given over to people on foot, running, jogging or walking.
It is not a race. There is no timing chip, nobody is ranked, and in 2025 you could walk the whole distance at whatever pace suited you.
You bring two things: running shoes and a bib. The bib is the paper number you pin to the front of your shirt, and you pick it up at a collection point in the weeks before, not on the morning itself. Water is handed out along the route.
Dubai Run sits inside Dubai Fitness Challenge, the city-wide campaign that asks residents and visitors to move for 30 minutes a day for 30 days. It’s one of the campaign’s four flagship days.

- Delivered on the ground by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), which is part of DET.
- First held in 2019.

Dubai Run 2026 and Dubai Fitness Challenge 2026
Dubai Fitness Challenge 2026 will start on Saturday 31 October and will finish on Sunday 29 November. Dubai Run will be one of its four flagship days, and it’s the one that draws the biggest crowd by a wide margin.

Dubai Run 2026 Date and Start Time
Dubai Run 2026 will take place on Sunday 22 November 2026, and it will start at 06:30.
Both facts come from the Dubai Fitness Challenge event page. The official Dubai Run site has the date and a countdown clock on it, but not the start time.
06:30 is when the run will start, not when you’ll be asked to arrive. In 2025 you booked an arrival slot as you registered, and the earliest slots began at 04:00, two and a half hours before the start and long before it got light.
Nothing else about the clock has been published for 2026. Four things are still missing:
- the arrival slots, and how you choose one
- the time after which you can no longer start
- the time by which you have to be off the road
- the time the event finishes
How it worked in 2025
- Arrival slots. You chose one when you booked. They began at 04:00 and each had a limited number of places.
- Start line closed at 08:00. One Khaleej Times report on the eve of the run gave 08:15 instead.
- Off the road by 09:05. The last 10km runner had to enter the tunnel at DIFC, the Dubai International Financial Centre district, by that time.
Not announced as of 2 September 2026. In 2025 the arrival slots began at 04:00 and the start line closed at 08:00. We’ll update this section when Dubai Sports Council publishes the 2026 timings.
Dubai Run 2026 Route
Dubai Run 2026 will have two routes
- 5km
- 10km
The 10km will start and finish on Sheikh Zayed Road, and the 5km will go through Downtown Dubai. That is the whole of the 2026 course description, in one sentence, with no map and no start or finish point.
Dubai Run 2026 5km Route
The 5km will go through Downtown Dubai. Dubai Sports Council hasn’t published its start or finish point, so what follows is Khaleej Times’ account of the 2025 course.
Not announced as of 2 September 2026. In 2025 it started near the Museum of the Future and finished near Dubai Mall. We’ll update this section when Dubai Sports Council publishes the 2026 start and finish lines.
Dubai Run 2026 10km Route
The 10km will start and finish on Sheikh Zayed Road. The Government of Dubai Media Office put the Museum of the Future, the Dubai Water Canal and Burj Khalifa on this route in 2025, and on this route only.
How it worked in 2025
- Started near the Museum of the Future.
- Crossed the Dubai Water Canal bridge, then passed Burj Khalifa.
- Came back along Sheikh Zayed Road and finished at the DIFC Gate Building.
- No strollers were allowed.

Dubai Run 2026 Registration
Registration for Dubai Run 2026 is not open. As of 2 September 2026, neither Dubai Sports Council nor DET has announced when it will open, so there is nothing to book yet and no waiting list to join.
- The official Dubai Run site has no content on it yet beyond the date. It shows the date, a countdown and partner logos. Every link and button on it was checked on 2 September 2026. There is no register button anywhere on it.
- The Dubai Fitness Challenge event page has no booking link either. It carries the date, the start time and one sentence about the routes.
- The general Dubai Fitness Challenge sign-up is live, and it is not Dubai Run entry. It signs you up for news about the 30-day campaign. It does not give you a place in the run. Our Dubai Fitness Challenge 2026 guide explains what that sign-up does cover.
Mid-to-late October is the pattern, which puts the next thing worth checking about six weeks away. It is only two years of evidence though, and one of the two dates came from a magazine rather than an official release.
One wrong date is already in circulation: the 2 October 2025 opening was the general Dubai Fitness Challenge sign-up, not the run.

How to Join Dubai Run 2026
Joining Dubai Run 2026 will take four steps, spread over several weeks rather than done in one sitting: register online, choose an arrival time, collect a bib on a separate trip across town, and wear it on the morning.
The 10km needs preparation, and you’ve got about eleven weeks, with the mornings getting cooler the whole way through. Our Dubai Canal Run 2026 guide covers a timed road race in the city if you want one.
Under the 2025 rules, this is who could register:
- Under 13. An adult over 21 had to register them.
- Aged 13 to 21. They could register on their own, with a parent’s consent.
- People of Determination, the UAE term for people with disabilities. They could register, and a support team was provided.

Dubai Run 2026 Bib Collection
Bib collection will run in the weeks before the event, not on the morning itself, so it costs you a separate trip across town. In 2025 nobody without a bib got onto the road.
How it worked in 2025
- Collection ran from 3 to 22 November at the 30×30 Fitness Village in Zabeel Park. A Fitness Village is a temporary outdoor park with free classes and equipment. The name 30×30 means 30 minutes a day for 30 days.
- Khaleej Times and The National both gave the hours as 16:00 to 23:00 from Monday to Thursday, with longer hours at the weekend, but they disagree on whether it shut at 23:00 or at midnight.
- The Government of Dubai Media Office gave the venue’s own hours as 16:00 to 23:00 Monday to Friday and 12:00 to 23:00 at weekends, which matches neither newspaper.
- You brought your registration QR code, and could collect for friends and family with theirs.
The venue moves from year to year, so last year’s address isn’t a safe bet. In 2023 it was One Central, not Zabeel Park.
Not announced as of 2 September 2026. In 2025 it ran at Zabeel Park from 3 to 22 November. We’ll update this section when DET and DFRE publish the 2026 collection point, dates and hours.
Dubai Run 2026 Fees
Entry was free in 2025, for both the 5km and the 10km, and no fee has been announced for 2026.
The claim that 2026 will be free again comes from a news site. Neither DET nor Dubai Sports Council has said it on an official 2026 page.

What does free entry actually include?
What Dubai Run 2026 Free Entry Does Not Cover
Free entry covers the run itself and nothing around it. Salik, which is Dubai’s road toll, will still be charged on the morning, and so will your metro fare and your parking. You buy your own kit.
- Salik tolls. Salik is charged automatically as you drive under a gate. On the morning of the 2025 run the 06:00 to 10:00 peak rate rose to Dh6 a gate.
- Metro fare. A nol card is the travel card you tap at the station gate. In 2025 the RTA, which is Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, advised a balance of at least Dh15 on a standard Silver nol card.
- Parking. Normal car-park charges applied in 2025, and no free parking was offered.
- A second trip across town to collect your bib on a different day.
- Your own kit. You bring your own shoes, sun hat and water bottle. The T-shirt came with the bib in 2025, and stock ran out before the event. That last point comes from Expat Media, a commercial news site rather than an official source.
Not announced as of 2 September 2026. In 2025 the Salik peak toll was Dh6 a gate and the T-shirt came with the bib. We’ll update this section when Salik publishes a tariff for 22 November 2026 and when DET confirms the 2026 entry pack.
Dubai Run 2026 Road Closures
The RTA will close Sheikh Zayed Road for Dubai Run 2026, and in 2025 the closure took in several Downtown streets and the parking bays beside the motorway as well. It hasn’t published the closure notice or the timings for 22 November 2026 yet.

How it worked in 2025
- Roads closed one by one from 20:00 the night before.
- The main closure ran from 03:00 to 10:00 on the morning of the run.
- Every road reopened by 09:30, once the road was checked and cleared.
- Closed: Sheikh Zayed Road between Trade Centre Roundabout and the Al Hadiqa Road bridge, Lower Financial Centre Street, one direction of the main Downtown boulevard, one lane of Al Sukook Street, and the parking bays beside Sheikh Zayed Road.
- The RTA pointed drivers at Upper Financial Centre Street, Zabeel Palace Road, Al Wasl Road and Al Khail Road instead.
Not announced as of 2 September 2026. In 2025 the closure ran from 03:00 to 10:00. We’ll update this section when the RTA publishes the 2026 closure notice.
Salik sets its own tariff for the morning, separately from the RTA. Not announced as of 2 September 2026. In 2025 Salik confirmed the Dh6 morning peak two days before the run. We’ll update this section when Salik publishes a tariff for 22 November 2026.
How to Get to Dubai Run 2026
Sheikh Zayed Road is the course itself, so nothing parks on it and no station sits at the start line. There are two ways in, the Metro or your own car, and either one leaves you a walk at the end. The RTA hasn’t announced anything about transport for 22 November 2026.
Dubai Run 2026 by Metro
The Metro is the simpler way in. Its Red Line runs the length of Sheikh Zayed Road, so there is a station beside each start area and no car park to find in the dark. In 2025 the RTA opened it earlier than usual for the morning.

Which metro station did you use for Dubai Run 2025?
In 2025 the RTA ran the Metro from 03:00 to midnight on the day, and it directed runners to World Trade Centre station. The split by route in the table is Khaleej Times guidance, not the RTA’s. The RTA also advised a balance of at least Dh15 on a standard Silver nol card for a round trip, and at least Dh30 on a Gold card, which lets you use the front carriage.
Not announced as of 2 September 2026. In 2025 the Metro opened at 03:00 and ran to midnight. We’ll update this section when the RTA publishes the 2026 metro hours.
Dubai Run 2026 by Car and Parking
In 2025 you parked at Dubai Mall for the 5km, and at the Dubai World Trade Centre car parks for the 10km. Both of them charged the normal tariff, and both left you a walk to the start line.
Not announced as of 2 September 2026. In 2025 normal car-park tariffs applied and no free parking was offered. We’ll update this section when the RTA and DET publish the 2026 parking arrangements.
Dubai Run 2026 Rules
Under the 2025 rules you couldn’t bring a pet, a scooter or a bicycle, and there was nowhere to leave a bag either. Dubai Sports Council hasn’t published the 2026 rules yet.
- No bag drop, and no backpacks. Khaleej Times reported no backpacks. The National reported that a rucksack was allowed.
- No pets, scooters or bicycles.
- Strollers on the 5km only.
- Children under 13 had to be registered by an adult over 21.
How the morning worked in 2025
- You arrived inside your chosen slot and walked onto the closed motorway.
- You started when you reached the line.
- You then ran, jogged or walked at your own pace.
- Both routes had water stations.
- There was no timing chip, no result and no finishing position.
- You stepped aside to stop for a photograph, and left room for faster people to pass.
- The morning also had a Dubai Police supercar parade, drum crews and powered paragliders with lights on them.
- The youngest participant was four months old.

Dubai Run 2026 Participation Numbers
The first Dubai Run in 2019 drew 70,000 people. By 2025 that had reached 307,000, and the number has gone up every year the run used one course.

2020 is left out on purpose, because that year had no single course and people ran their own routes. The 2020 figure of more than 100,000 cannot be compared with these.
Two of the six figures are official: the Government of Dubai Media Office published the 278,000 and the 307,000 itself. The 70,000, 146,000, 193,000 and 226,000 come from press coverage instead, and none of the six has been checked independently.
Dubai Run 2026: What Dubai Sports Council Has Not Announced Yet
As of 2 September 2026, Dubai Sports Council and DET have published the date, the start time and one sentence about the routes. Everything in this list is still to come.
- The booking link, and the date it opens.
- The exact start and finish lines, and the route maps.
- Arrival slots, the start-line closing time and the cut-off times.
- The RTA road closure notice and its timings.
- The Salik tariff for the morning, and the extended metro hours.
- The bib collection venue, its dates and its hours.
- The company sponsoring the event in 2026.
- The 2026 Fitness Villages and Fitness Hubs, the temporary outdoor parks with free classes and equipment.
- Whether the event T-shirt is included again.

Is Dubai Run 2026 free?
Entry was free in 2025 for both the 5km and the 10km. Free entry covered the bib, safety pins, a kit bag, the event T-shirt and drinking water on the route. The morning still costs money, because in 2025 the Salik peak toll rose to Dh6 a gate, the RTA advised a minimum Dh15 nol balance, and normal car-park charges applied. Collecting the bib meant a second trip across town on a different day. For 2026 the free-entry statement comes from a news site rather than an official page.
How long is Dubai Run 2026, and can I walk it?

Yes, and you cannot get one on the morning. In 2025 only registered people wearing a bib were allowed onto the road, and there was no collection on the day. Bibs were handed out at the 30×30 Fitness Village, a temporary outdoor park in Zabeel Park, between 3 and 22 November 2025, on production of your registration QR code. You could collect for friends and family with their codes. The venue moves between years: in 2023 it was One Central, and DET and DFRE have announced nothing at all for 2026.
Which roads close for Dubai Run 2026, and when?
The RTA has issued nothing for 22 November 2026. In 2025 the main closure ran from 03:00 to 10:00 on the Sunday, with roads closing one by one from 20:00 the night before. Every road reopened by 09:30, and Sheikh Zayed Road was shut between Trade Centre Roundabout and the Al Hadiqa Road bridge. Lower Financial Centre Street, one direction of the main Downtown boulevard and one lane of Al Sukook Street closed as well. The RTA opened the Metro at 03:00 that morning.
Can I bring my children, a stroller, a backpack or my dog?
