From the Niyat (intention) made the night before, through Suhoor, Fajr, the Takbeer, and the peak dua window before Maghrib, every hour has a purpose and a reward.

This guide walks you through the 7 essential things to do on Arafat Day — starting with the Dua Niyat the night before, and ending with breaking your fast at Iftar.

7 Essential Things to Do, Step by Step

The Arafat Day Dua Niyat (Intention)

Before any voluntary fast in Islam — including the Arafat Day fast — you must make the Niyat, the intention. Niyat is a conscious commitment in the heart; speaking it aloud is not required, but many Muslims do for clarity. Make it on the night of Monday 25 May 2026 — ideally before going to sleep.

Arafat Day Dua Niyat

نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ سُنَّةً لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى Nawaytu sawma yawmi Arafata sunnatan lillahi taala I intend to fast the Day of Arafah as a Sunnah, for the sake of Allah the Exalted.

7 Essential Things to Do on Arafat Day 2026

1
Make Your Niyat on the Night of Mon 25 May
Before bed, set your intention to fast the Day of Arafah. The Niyat is what transforms a fast from a habit into an act of worship. Make it sincerely in your heart; voicing it is optional.
2
Eat Suhoor Before Fajr (Before ~4:07 AM)
Wake before Fajr (~4:07 AM in Dubai) and eat Suhoor. The Prophet (peace be upon him) emphasised this as a blessed meal. Hydration is critical — the fast runs over 15 hours in the UAE summer.
3
Pray Fajr at the Mosque or at Home
Fajr is the gateway prayer of the day. Pray in congregation if possible. After Fajr, begin reciting the Takbeer Al-Tashreeq.
4
Recite the Takbeer After Each Prayer
Beginning with Fajr on 26 May and continuing through Asr on 29 May, recite Takbeer Al-Tashreeq after every fard (obligatory) prayer. Men recite audibly; women quietly. This continues across all four days of the Eid period.
5
Pray Dhuhr (~12:17 PM) — Begin Dua Window
After Dhuhr, the most blessed dua window of the entire year opens. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: the best dua is the dua of the Day of Arafah. Spend time reciting the Tahleel, the Sayyid Al-Istighfar, and personal supplications.
6
Maximise the Asr to Maghrib Peak Window
From Asr (~3:47 PM) to Maghrib (~7:10 PM) is the spiritual peak of the day. The final hour before Maghrib is the most powerful moment of dua in the entire Islamic year.
7
Break Your Fast at Maghrib (~7:10 PM)
Open your fast with dates and water, following the Sunnah. Pray Maghrib. You have completed one of the most spiritually rewarding fasts of the year.

The Reward of the Arafat Day Fast

In the most authentic Hadith collections, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) described fasting on Arafat Day as expiating sins of the previous year and the year to come. What makes this fast different from any other voluntary fast is the combination — the fasting body, the standing pilgrims at Mount Arafat thousands of kilometres away, the descending mercy described in Hadith, and the open dua window from Dhuhr to Maghrib.
