How to perform Eid Al Adha prayer step by step

Salat al-Eid is two rakats with extra takbeers — seven in the first rakat, five in the second — followed by a khutbah (sermon). Wudu, modest dress and arriving early are sunnah.

STEP 1
Niyyah & opening takbeer
Make the silent intention (niyyah) to pray two rakats of Eid Al Adha behind the imam. Say “Allahu Akbar” with hands raised.
STEP 2
First rakat (7 takbeers)
Recite seven extra takbeers, raising hands each time. Then the imam recites Al-Fatiha and a short surah aloud. Complete ruku and two sujood.
STEP 3
Second rakat (5 takbeers)
Stand for the second rakat. Recite five extra takbeers, then Al-Fatiha and another surah. Complete ruku and sujood as normal.
STEP 4
Tasleem
Conclude the prayer with “Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah” turning right then left.
STEP 5
Khutbah & greetings
Stay seated for the imam’s khutbah (two parts). Afterwards, exchange “Eid Mubarak” greetings with worshippers around you.

Women are welcomed at the mosque or designated musallah and pray in the women’s section. Children are encouraged to attend. If you miss the congregation, the prayer cannot be made up individually.

Arafat Day 2026: fasting, duas and significance

Arafat Day falls on Tuesday, 26 May 2026 — the ninth day of Dhul Hijjah and the holiest day in the Islamic calendar. Pilgrims at Hajj stand at Mount Arafat in supplication from noon to sunset. Non-pilgrims worldwide are encouraged to fast, recite dua and seek forgiveness.

“There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and praise, and He has power over all things.”
— Reported in Tirmidhi, narrated from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Fasting on Arafat Day expiates the sins of the previous year and the year to come, according to authentic hadith.
