Dubai Design Week 2026 has published its programme, and the 12th edition opens on Tuesday 3 November at Dubai Design District (d3). For six days, d3 becomes a free, open-air design festival with installations, exhibitions, workshops and a weekend market, open from 10am to 10pm every day.
Most of it costs nothing and needs no booking. The one paid part is Downtown Design, the design fair inside the week, and the public can only enter it from Thursday 5 November. This guide tells you what is free, what is worth your time and which day suits you.

What Is Dubai Design Week?
Dubai Design Week is a free design festival held every November in Dubai Design District (d3). For six days, designers, architects and artists fill the streets and buildings of d3 with work you can walk into, touch, learn from and buy: outdoor installations, exhibitions, workshops, talks and a weekend market.
You do not need to work in design to enjoy it. Many visitors are families, students and Dubai residents who come to walk around in the cooler November evenings, take photos and see something new. You walk in, look around for as long as you like and leave when you want.
The festival has run for more than a decade, and 2026 is its 12th edition. d3 is its strategic partner, and Dubai Culture supports it. Inside the week sits Downtown Design, a fair where brands show furniture and interiors. It is the one part of the week that needs a ticket.
Dubai Design Week 2026 Dates and Opening Hours
Dubai Design Week 2026 runs from Tuesday 3 to Sunday 8 November 2026. The festival is open from 10am to 10pm on all six days, so you can go after work on a weekday.
Two parts of the week keep their own hours, and they are the ones people mix up:
- Downtown Design, the paid fair, is open to the public from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 November, from 12pm to 8pm (12pm to 6pm on Sunday). Wednesday 4 November is for invited press and VIP guests only.
- The Marketplace runs only at the weekend, on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, from 10am to 10pm.
Dubai Design Week Location
Dubai Design Week is held across Dubai Design District, called d3. d3 is a creative business district in central Dubai, next to Business Bay. The installations stand outdoors between its buildings, so you walk from one to the next.
People often search for "Downtown Dubai Design Week". The festival is not in Downtown Dubai. "Downtown Design" is the name of the fair, and the fair is also inside d3.
Is Dubai Design Week Free?
Yes. Dubai Design Week is free to attend and open to visitors of all ages. You do not need a ticket or a registration to walk around d3 and see the installations, the exhibitions, the activations or the Marketplace.
The only part that needs a paid ticket is Downtown Design: AED 80 for one day or AED 150 for all four public days, sold on Platinumlist. Our Dubai Design Week tickets guide shows how to buy one step by step.
You may see a free account on the Dubai Design Week website. It only lets you save favourite events in your own programme. You can enter without it.
What to See for Free at Dubai Design Week
The free programme fills d3 with installations, exhibitions, brand activations, a group exhibition called Abwab and a hands-on Maker Space. This is what is announced so far, in the order a first-time visitor usually meets it.
Urban Commissions: Three Gardens and a Room
The Urban Commission is the festival's main outdoor piece, chosen by open competition each year. In 2026 the theme is "Atmospheres", and the winner is "Three Gardens and a Room" by NAO Architects, a Dubai practice founded by the Lebanese-Emirati architect Reem Nassour.
It is three connected gardens around a shared room. Plants, colour, shade and filtered light change as the sun moves, so the place looks different in the morning, at sunset and at night. Visit it twice if you can.
Installations
The online programme lists 13 installations across d3. They include:
- CHATAI 2.0 by Nikken Sekkei with SOBOKUYA: a bigger version of last year's Japanese timber structure, with spaces for making and gathering.
- Playing Field by ALTER: a Ludo board made from recycled cement tiles that you can play on.
- Peek, Pivot, Play!: rotating panels that reveal hidden pictures as people turn them.
- InBetween What Was and What Will Be by aestudio: built from reclaimed concrete rubble.
- The Desert Dweller by Ethr: a modern version of the Bedouin tent, by architect Omar Darwish.
- Taqleem by Rasha Saffarini: a communal space based on the trimming of palm trees.
The others are The Pleated Garden, ROOTED (built around a living olive tree), ShadeForm, Herding the UNHEARD, Roots of the Future and Resonance. Playing Field and Peek, Pivot, Play! are the easiest ones for children, because they are made to be touched and played with.
Abwab: In Other Words
Abwab means "doors" in Arabic. In past years it was a set of separate pavilions. In 2026 Abwab becomes one indoor group exhibition, "In Other Words", about language: signs, scripts, gestures, spoken stories, typography and sound. The participants have not been named yet.
Exhibitions and activations
The indoor exhibitions announced so far are:
- Worlds Ahead by the architecture firm Woods Bagot, about 25 years of its work in the Middle East.
- L'ECOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, supported by Van Cleef & Arpels, on lost goldsmithing methods from the Second Iron Age.
- Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, with ceramics made by young makers.
Brands add activations around the district. Pinterest opens its first physical space in the region, IQOS and Ouchhh show "CURIOUS STUDIO", and BMW Middle East returns with its own activation.
Workshops at the Maker Space
The Maker Space is a pop-up studio in d3 where you make something with your hands. The programme lists 20 workshops, led by teachers from the University of the Arts London and SAE University College, HKS Architects, Leica Camera and independent makers. Examples are Stop Motion Animation, Pinhole Photography, Paper Mache Sculpture and "Dubai, Imagined by Children".
Times, prices, ages and booking are not published yet. Each workshop page says details "will be available soon".
The Marketplace
The Marketplace is an outdoor market of homegrown brands and small makers on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, from 10am to 10pm. You can buy homeware, jewellery, fashion and sustainable goods, and there is food, children's activities and live music. It is the busiest part of the week.
Downtown Design: The Paid Fair
Downtown Design is the design fair held as part of Dubai Design Week, and it is the only part you pay for. International and regional brands show furniture, lighting, kitchens, bathrooms, tiles and rugs. The fair also holds The Forum talks, the UAE Designer Exhibition and a Memphis Milano exhibition.
The public can go from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 November with a ticket. Our Downtown Design 2026 guide has the exhibitors, the talks and the day-by-day hours.
Dubai Design Week Schedule: Which Day to Go
Go on a weekday for quiet installations, and at the weekend for the Marketplace. Your best day depends on what you want to see.
- Tuesday 3 or Wednesday 4 November: the calmest days for the free installations and exhibitions. Downtown Design is not open to the public yet.
- Thursday 5 or Friday 6 November: the free festival plus Downtown Design, which is quieter than at the weekend.
- Saturday 7 November: everything is open: the festival, the Marketplace and Downtown Design until 8pm.
- Sunday 8 November: the last day. Downtown Design closes earlier, at 6pm.
The festival is open until 10pm, so an evening visit works well. The light installations look best after dark. This is our own advice, not an official schedule.
How to Get to Dubai Design District
The easiest way is the Metro to Dubai Mall / Burj Khalifa station, then RTA bus D03 to the "Dubai Design District 1" stop. Shuttle buses will run from that stop to the Downtown Design fair. Live times for bus D03 are in the S'hail app.
If you drive, parking in d3 is free for the first two hours, then AED 20 an hour. Valet parking is offered in several places in d3 and at the Downtown Design entrance, but its price is not published. Taxis have drop-off points around d3, and Downtown Design has its own drop-off at its main entrance.
Things to Keep in Mind
- Global Grad Show is not part of the 2026 programme. It is not on the 2026 programme or the Visit page.
- No 2026 open call is listed any more. The website no longer shows a call for designers, Marketplace stallholders or volunteers for this edition.
- The Forum talk schedule is not published yet. The keynote is the interior architect Tristan Auer, who is leading the restoration of Burj Al Arab.
- Bring water and comfortable shoes. The installations are outdoors and spread across d3.
