Art Dubai 2026 is confirmed and going ahead. The fair’s 20th edition has moved from April to 14–17 May at Madinat Jumeirah, following regional disruption. Dubai’s collecting community backed it strongly, and the platform held.
This year brings a new format, a brand-new strand called Bawwaba Extended, and over 100 presentations from 35-plus countries. Thirty-six galleries show at Art Dubai for the very first time.
Whether you are a gallery, a collector or someone who wants to walk through extraordinary rooms all you should know about Art Dubai 2026 is right here.

Art Dubai Fair 2026
Art Dubai is the Middle East’s leading international art fair. Each year, galleries, artists, collectors, curators and institutions gather at Madinat Jumeirah for four days of exhibitions, commissions, talks and after-hours programming.
Quick Facts
- Dates: 14-17 May 2026
- Venue: Madinat Jumeirah
The 2026 edition is the fair’s 20th. Two decades of building a serious art platform in a region that, for much of that time, was nowhere on the international art circuit. The fair has a new director this year — Dunja Gottweis — and she has framed the edition around a curatorial theme: ‘Future, Past, Present.’
The fair deliberately positions itself at the crossroads of the Global South and the wider art world. That is less a tagline than an actual editorial principle — you feel it on the floor when you see galleries from Tunisia, India and Mexico sitting alongside those from London and Berlin.
What’s Different in Art Dubai 2026
This edition is not business as usual, and it is worth being direct about why.

In late February 2026, Iranian missile strikes began hitting targets in the UAE. Airspace disruptions followed almost immediately, with commercial flights severely curtailed. Galleries who had been planning April trips suddenly found they could not move people or art. The original fair dates were scrapped.
On 19 March 2026, Art Dubai announced the new plan: move to 14–17 May, run a more focused format, and keep the fair alive. The decision came after sustained dialogue with stakeholders. The local collecting community — Dubai-based galleries, collectors and institutions — made clear they wanted the platform to continue.
| What changed | The detail |
|---|---|
| Dates | Moved from mid-April to 14–17 May 2026 |
| Format | More focused; described as a curated cultural gathering rather than a full-scale fair |
| Gallery fees | No upfront stand fees. Galleries pay a percentage of their sales, capped at the standard stand-fee equivalent |
| Remote option | Galleries unable to travel to Dubai can ship works. The Art Dubai team presents them on-site |
| 2027 rollover | Galleries that opt out of 2026 entirely carry their fee forward to next year |
For galleries, removing the upfront stand fee (which in past editions ranged from $15,000 to $60,000 depending on booth size — verify current rates before applying) is a meaningful shift. It moves the risk away from the gallery and ties the fair’s income to actual sales.

The Gallery Sections at Art Dubai
A note on what follows: Art Dubai originally announced four distinct gallery platforms for 2026 in detail — Zamaniyyat, Bawwaba, Art Dubai Galleries and Art Dubai Digital. Those announcements came before the April-to-May rescheduling. Since the adapted format was confirmed, the fair’s official communications have been deliberately broader: ‘presentations, collaborations and public programming.’ The final shape of the programme is still being finalised.
The sections below describe what was publicly announced for 2026. Treat the specific curatorial details as subject to change. Check artdubai.ae/exhibitors-2026 for the latest.
Zamaniyyat (زمانيات)
- Zamaniyyat — from zaman, the Arabic word for ‘time’ — was announced as a curated platform bringing together 11 galleries and 45 artists from over 20 countries.
- Curated by Dr Sarah A. Rifky, its focus is artists who shaped modernism globally across the 20th century.
The argument at the heart of Zamaniyyat is a pointed one: modernism did not unfold on a single shared timeline. Rather, it moved through different art schools, publications and institutions across uneven global histories — and the standard Western account of modern art has always had gaps where those stories should be.
Bawwaba (بوابة) and Bawwaba Extended
- Bawwaba — Arabic for ‘gateway’ — is a platform dedicated to solo presentations of newly produced work by emerging and mid-career artists.
- It was curated by Amal Khalaf for this edition, with themes of belonging, movement and resilience running through the selection.
Art Dubai Galleries
- The core gallery section of the fair — leading and emerging galleries presenting modern and contemporary art.
- The pre-reschedule announcement named first-time exhibitors from France, Germany, Mexico and Switzerland, alongside returning galleries from Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, Turkey and India.
- Thirty-six galleries were set to show at Art Dubai for the very first time.
Given that galleries unable to travel can now ship works, some of those 36 first-timers may still participate remotely. For galleries from the Global South in particular, this fair remains one of the few international platforms where they are not the novelty on the edge of the room — they are the main event.
Art Dubai Digital 2026: ‘Myth of the Digital’
- Curated by Ulrich Schrauth and Nadine Khalil, the edition was titled ‘Myth of the Digital’ and planned to foreground installation-led, multisensory work: AI-driven data sculptures, interactive screen-based installations and digital surfaces crossing into textile and glass.
- Artists announced before the rescheduling included Marina Abramović and Rachel Rossin, alongside regional voices like Sulaiman Al Salem and Fatma Lootah, with a record 19 first-time exhibitors in this section.

About Art Dubai
Art Dubai launched in 2007, making 2026 its 20th year. It was built to be a platform rooted in the Middle East but facing outward — one that puts MENASA (Middle East, North Africa and South Asia) artists and galleries into genuine conversation with the international art world, not simply adjacent to it.
Over two decades, it has grown into the most significant art gathering in the MENASA region. In any given year, it draws collectors from across the Gulf, Africa, South Asia and Europe; galleries from regions still underrepresented in the global art market; and a public programme that takes seriously the idea that art fairs should serve more people than just buyers and sellers.
