On 26th March 2026, Primark officially opened its first UAE store at The Dubai Mall. And the response was the kind that press releases cannot manufacture.
People were lined up before 9:30am. The queue stretched 500 metres outside one of the world’s busiest malls. By the time the ribbon was cut — by Alshaya Group CEO John Hadden, the Irish Ambassador to the UAE, and Primark’s VP for the Middle East — the crowd was already moving.

Dubai gets new openings constantly — restaurants, gyms, concept stores, flagships. Most are forgotten in a fortnight. Primark landed differently. Here is why.
1. Dubai has never had a real budget fashion retailer at scale.
H&M is here. Zara is here. But these are mid-market brands — a basic T-shirt at either costs AED 60–90. Below that tier, the options have been Dragon Mart or nothing. Primark — an Irish retailer founded in Dublin in 1969, now with 470+ stores across Europe and the US, known for making genuinely affordable fashion without compromising on trend — has never been here before. That gap has existed for years. Primark fills it completely.
2. Dubai residents have been quietly waiting for this for years.
British expats in their 30s. South Asian families who grew up near a UK high street. Anyone who has done the maths on a suitcase from home — everyone in this city who knew Primark knew what they were missing. The queue on opening day was not excitement about a new brand. It was relief that the wait was finally over.
3. This is a full global flagship — not a scaled-down test.
Alshaya CEO John Hadden confirmed the store carries the exact same product range as any Primark anywhere in the world, launching the spring 2026 collection at the same time as Europe.
In fact, because most of Primark’s product originates in Asia, Hadden said Dubai could actually receive new collections before London does.
A city that is usually last on the global rollout is, for once, near the front.
4. The price points reset what “affordable” means in a Dubai Mall context.
You can spend AED 800 on a T-shirt in Dubai Mall and nobody looks twice. Primark sells one for AED 9. That is a different category entirely.
For families with children under ten — who go through clothing at a rate that makes premium pricing genuinely unsustainable — this changes the monthly shop in a real, practical way.
5. Three stores in two months signals serious long-term commitment.
Alshaya and Primark confirmed three Dubai locations before the first one had even opened — Dubai Mall, City Centre Mirdif, and Mall of the Emirates — with Bahrain and Qatar to follow.
Primark fans, good news for you: A second store will arrive at City Centre Mirdif in April, followed by Mall of the Emirates in May.
