How to Get ChatGPT to Recommend Your Dubai Business (2026)

ChatGPT now answers "best accountant in Dubai" with a short list of names. Here is the one rule OpenAI publishes, how the rest seems to work, and eight steps to make your business easier for it to find and recommend.

More of your customers now ask ChatGPT before they ask Google. "Best accountant for a free zone company in Dubai", "a good dentist in JLT", "who can set up my trade licence quickly": the answer comes back as a short paragraph naming three or four businesses, with no page of links to scroll. If your business is not in that paragraph, the customer never sees it.

Nobody can buy a place in that answer, and OpenAI does not publish how it picks the names. But it does publish one hard rule, and the rest follows a pattern you can work with. This guide covers both, in the order a Dubai business should tackle them.

How ChatGPT decides which businesses to name

When someone asks ChatGPT for a business recommendation, it usually searches the web first and then writes its answer from what it found. OpenAI says ChatGPT search uses third-party search providers as well as content from its publishing partners. It does not name the providers in that announcement; Microsoft's Bing is widely reported to be one of them.

That has two consequences. First, ChatGPT can only recommend a business it can find in those search results. Second, it leans on what other websites say about you, not only on your own site. Independent tests by local search marketing firms find that its local answers draw heavily on review and directory sites and on published lists, and that Google Business Profile data is not plugged into it directly. Treat those findings as indicative: they come from companies that sell search marketing, and OpenAI has not confirmed them.

The practical upshot is simple. ChatGPT recommends businesses that are easy to find, clearly described, and mentioned approvingly in several places it trusts.

Eight steps, in order

  1. Let OpenAI's search crawler in. Your website's robots.txt file must not block OAI-SearchBot. OpenAI's own documentation says sites that opt out of it "will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers". Also check your hosting firewall: Cloudflare and some other providers have a setting that blocks AI crawlers, so make sure search crawlers are allowed. GPTBot is a different crawler, used for training AI models, and you can block it without affecting search.
  2. Ask ChatGPT about yourself. Turn on search and ask the three or four questions your customers would ask, for example "best company setup consultant in Dubai for a freelancer". Note who it names and, more usefully, which websites it cites as sources. Those sources are your to-do list.
  3. Make your website answer the questions. One clear page per service, saying what you do, for whom, in which areas of Dubai, roughly what it costs and how to book. Put it in plain text, not inside images or PDFs. Add a short FAQ with the questions customers actually ask you on WhatsApp.
  4. Keep your details identical everywhere. The same business name, address, phone number and opening hours on your website, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn page, Instagram and every directory. Inconsistent details make it harder for any search system to be sure the listings are the same business.
  5. Get listed where your customers already look. The directories and platforms for your trade: Tripadvisor or Zomato for restaurants and attractions, Bayut and Property Finder for agents, your free zone's or industry body's member directory, and Bing Places if your category is available in the UAE. These are the kinds of sites AI answers cite.
  6. Collect reviews steadily. Ask every happy client for a review, and ask them to mention the service and the area ("helped me open a Meydan free zone company"). A steady flow of recent reviews is more convincing than a burst of old ones.
  7. Get mentioned by others. A line in a Time Out Dubai or What's On list, a quote in Gulf News or Khaleej Times, a podcast interview, an article by the founder on LinkedIn. Each one is an independent source saying you exist and are good at something.
  8. Describe your business for machines too. Add structured data (schema.org's LocalBusiness or Organization markup) to your website, so search engines read your name, address, hours and services without guessing. It helps search engines understand your site; there is no published evidence that ChatGPT reads it directly.

No one can guarantee a ChatGPT ranking

OpenAI publishes no ranking factors and sells no placements. An agency that promises your business "will appear in ChatGPT" in a fixed time is promising something it cannot control. The steps above improve your chances; none of them guarantees a mention.

How long it takes

The crawler change works fastest: OpenAI says it takes about 24 hours for its systems to pick up a robots.txt update. Everything else depends on other websites being updated and re-read, which can take weeks or months, and there is no way to force it. Ask ChatGPT the same questions once a month and keep a note of what changes.

What not to do

Worth doing

  • Allow OAI-SearchBot and check your firewall setting
  • Answer real customer questions on your own pages
  • Ask every satisfied client for a review
  • Pitch your expertise to Dubai media and podcasts

Not worth it

  • Paying for "guaranteed ChatGPT ranking"
  • Buying reviews or posting fake ones
  • Stuffing pages with "best in Dubai" phrases
  • Blocking all bots to protect your content, then wondering why AI never mentions you

FAQs

How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?

Make sure OpenAI's search crawler, OAI-SearchBot, can read your website, then make your business easy to find and well described elsewhere: consistent listings, steady reviews, and mentions in directories, lists and the media that ChatGPT cites. There is no way to pay for a recommendation.

Does ChatGPT use Google reviews?

OpenAI has not said. Tests by local search marketing firms suggest Google Business Profile data is not connected to ChatGPT directly, and that review and directory sites play a bigger part. Keep your Google profile up to date anyway: it still matters for Google's own search and AI answers.

Should I block GPTBot?

That is your choice. GPTBot collects content for training AI models; OAI-SearchBot is the one that decides whether you appear in ChatGPT search answers. You can block GPTBot and still allow OAI-SearchBot.

How long does it take to appear in ChatGPT?

Unblocking OAI-SearchBot takes effect in about 24 hours, according to OpenAI. Being recommended depends on other websites mentioning you, which can take weeks or months.

Can an agency guarantee my business appears in ChatGPT?

No. OpenAI publishes no ranking factors and sells no placements, so any guarantee is a promise the agency cannot keep.
