AED exchange rate today
The dirham is pegged at 3.6725 to the US dollar. Today's rate against the Indian rupee, Pakistani rupee, Philippine peso and more — interbank mid-market, updated every morning.
What this rate is
This is the interbank mid-market rate — the rate banks trade dirhams at, and the one Google and XE show. It is the honest midpoint, and it is the number to compare offers against.
It is not what you will get over the counter. An exchange house takes a margin, usually between half and one and a half per cent, and a bank's app often takes more. If a provider quotes you within about one per cent of the figure above, that is a fair rate; much further and you are paying for convenience.
When it changes
Currency markets move continuously on weekdays. This page takes one reading each morning, so over a weekend it shows Friday's rate, because that is the last one the market set.
The dirham itself is pegged to the US dollar at 3.6725 and has been since 1997, so AED/USD does not move. Everything else here moves because the other currency does — when the rupee weakens against the dollar, it weakens against the dirham by the same amount.
Sending money home
Rates are usually keenest midweek and around the end of the month, when remittance houses compete for payday volume. The difference between the best and worst provider on the same day is routinely larger than the transfer fee, so the rate is worth comparing even when the fee looks free.
