Did you know there is a perfume valued at over a million dollars?

And who else could have birthed it but Dubai, a city where luxury and spectacle seem to run through its very veins.

Shumukh The Spirit of Dubai

Shumukh is a perfume, housed inside a monumental, jewel-encrusted bottle designed as a single, self-contained luxury object.

It is officially recognised as the world’s most expensive perfume.

Shumukh is intended primarily as a display masterpiece. Its value comes as much from the structure that holds the perfume as from the scent inside it.

At the centre of Shumukh is a large sculptural bottle, standing 1.97 metres tall, engineered to dispense perfume through a remote-controlled spray mechanism.

The structure is built using precious metals and gemstones, turning the bottle into a work of jewellery at architectural scale. This is where most of Shumukh’s valuation is concentrated.

Shumukh

At a glance, Shumukh:

  • Shumukh is a one-of-a-kind perfume, created in the UAE by The Spirit of Dubai Parfums by Nabeel and unveiled in 2019 as a single, non-replicated creation.
  • The perfume itself is a unisex composition with notes of amber, sandalwood, musk, rare Indian agarwood (oud), Turkish rose, patchouli, ylang-ylang, and frankincense.
  • This perfume is housed within a large sculptural bottle and display structure, engineered as a functioning object.

The marvelous structure and what’s within:

  • The structure stands approximately 1.97 metres tall and incorporates a remote-controlled spray mechanism, allowing the perfume to be dispensed during display.
  • Inside the structure are three litres of perfume, an exceptionally large volume by any fragrance standard.
  • The structure is constructed using 18-karat gold (2.48 kg) and pure silver (5.9 kg), and is set with 3,571 IGI and GIA-certified diamonds totalling approximately 38.55 carats, along with pearls and topaz.

Owing to its scale, materials, and engineering, Shumukh holds multiple Guinness World Records, including for the most diamonds set on a perfume bottle.

Shumukh de The Spirit of Dubai Price

Shumukh, created by Spirit of Dubai Parfums, is priced at approximately USD 1.29 million.

However, this is not a retail price. What this means is that Shumukh itself is not for sale. It is a singular, one-of-one creation presented as a luxury artefact and exhibition piece, not a product intended for purchase.

The Fragrance Composition

At its core, Shumukh is built around a deep, layered fragrance designed to reflect richness, warmth, and longevity. The formulation took over three years and 494 trials to complete and uses natural ingredients sourced from multiple regions, chosen for both intensity and staying power.

The scent opens with warm, resinous tones and gradually settles into a dense, woody base. It is designed as a unisex composition, balanced to sit comfortably on skin rather than project aggressively.

The fragrance notes include:

  • Amber – providing warmth and depth
  • Sandalwood – lending a creamy, woody softness
  • Musk – anchoring the scent close to the skin
  • Rare pure Indian agarwood (oud) – adding richness and complexity
  • Pure Turkish rose – introducing a subtle floral contrast
  • Patchouli – contributing earthiness and structure
  • Ylang-ylang – softening the blend with gentle sweetness
  • Frankincense – giving a resinous, smoky finish

The perfume is reported to last over twelve hours on skin, with even longer persistence on fabric. The scent develops slowly, remaining consistent and present throughout wear.

More Than Just A Perfume

Shumukh is also conceived as a symbolic representation of Dubai itself. Its design integrates seven cultural and aspirational elements associated with the Emirate, each modelled in precious metals and gemstones:

  • Durra – Pearl diving
  • Baz – Falconry
  • Abjar – Arabian horses
  • Narjesi – Roses
  • Haibah – Luxury
  • Diwan – Arabian hospitality
  • Aamal – Dubai as a city of the future

The concept was developed in the UAE by Asghar Adam Ali, Chairman and Master Perfumer of the Nabeel Perfumes Group, and brought to life by master craftsmen from Italy, France, and Switzerland, including recipients of the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France designation.

Can you buy Shumukh?

😔

The original Shumukh cannot be bought like a normal perfume. It is not stocked in stores, listed on websites, or offered with a checkout button.

It functions as an exhibition piece and a collector-level artefact rather than a consumer product.

However, if all you can think of is “Shumukh perfume buy”, then what you can do is get your hands on a Shumukh perfume copy or Shumukh inspired perfume.

There are commercial fragrances that borrow the same oud–rose–amber backbone and present it in conventional bottles meant to be worn rather than displayed. They are sold through select luxury fragrance boutiques and niche perfume retailers under the Spirit of Dubai Parfums catalogue.

Other Most Expensive Perfumes In The World (They Sell)

While Shumukh exists as a singular, non-replicated masterpiece, it is discussed alongside a small group of perfumes that represent the uppermost tier of commercially sold luxury fragrances.

Imperial Majesty by Clive Christian

Imperial Majesty by Clive Christian

Cited as the most expensive perfume ever sold at retail, Imperial Majesty is valued for its Baccarat crystal bottle, gold detailing, and diamond-set collar. Its price, which has crossed USD 200,000, comes from both presentation and brand prestige, making it a common comparison point when discussing record-breaking perfumes.

Haute Luxe by Roja Parfums

Haute Luxe by Roja Parfums

Considered the flagship of the house, Haute Luxe is priced in the several-thousand-dollar range per bottle and is described as one of the most luxurious wearable perfumes available.

Its reputation is built almost entirely on ingredient purity and formulation rather than visual spectacle.

House of Sillage

House of Sillage

Known for Swarovski crystal–encrusted bottles and limited editions, House of Sillage occupies the space where perfume meets jewellery.

Some of its special releases reach five-figure prices, with bottle design playing a central role in their valuation.

Then there is another perfume, that’s searched a lot alongside Shumukh, but sits in the list solely due to its connection to tones, than price…

Creed Royal Oud

Creed Royal Oud

A globally recognised oud-based fragrance, Royal Oud is associated with discreet wealth and traditional luxury.

While far more accessible than others on this list, it appears frequently in searches due to its strong connection with Middle Eastern perfumery culture and high-end taste.

In Dubai, even fragrance operates at a different level. Does this surprise you?
